Wild Child Literacy:
Inspiring a Love for Nature in Every Child
In a world where screen time dominates, Wild Child Literacy is on a mission to help children trade pixels for pine trees. Through our collection of nature-themed stories, activities, and educational resources, we're dedicated to encouraging outdoor play, fostering environmental stewardship, and nurturing a deep connection to the natural world.
Our Philosophy: Why Wild Child Literacy Matters
At Wild Child Literacy, we believe in raising kids who run wild, ask questions, and care deeply. Childhood should be filled with muddy boots, campfire stories, and backyard discoveries—not just screen time.
Our nature-based learning tools are designed to help families explore the wild world together. Through engaging tales and hands-on activities, we strive to inspire:
🌱 Conservation – Championing love and protection for wild places through stories and activities.
🧭 Confidence Through Learning – Helping kids build the skills they need to thrive outdoors.
🌼 Curiosity – Fueling exploration and a lifelong love of learning through nature.
🪵 Communication – Strengthening family bonds through shared outdoor experiences and conversations.
These are our 4 C’s of outdoor learning—our guiding values for every resource we create.

Meet Jen: The Heart Behind Wild Child Literacy

Hi, I’m Jen Baker, the founder of Wild Child Literacy!
I’m a wildlife enthusiast, passionate storyteller, and proud mom to two nature-loving kids.
My deep love for the outdoors and its creatures began on a family farm in Manitoba, Canada. My days were filled with animals, hay bale forts, and starry skies, and my dad, a past president of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, profoundly instilled in me values of wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. This foundation now fuels my passion for creating nature-inspired resources.
Beyond my hands-on work experience as a wildlife technician (tracking grizzly bears and testing wildlife-friendly fence enhancements for pronghorn antelope), and having the privilege of teaching wildlife safety classes as a past community coordinator for WildlifeBC here in British Columbia, Canada, I also worked at The Outdoor Learning Store, which deepened my understanding of practical outdoor education and the resources families need.
But my passion for learning isn't confined to the wild. I've always been driven by questions of "why and how." It's why I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and love learning about anatomy and physiology. It's my true belief that nature is central to both physical and mental well-being.
My range of experience—from professional wildlife work to academic studies—has uniquely prepared me for my family's next adventure: a deep dive into holistic health. As a mom with Hashimoto's (and my daughter navigating both Hashimoto's and alopecia), we've personally explored the complex interplay of autoimmune challenges, allergies, and possible neurodivergence. This personal quest for holistic wellness and resilience is what inspired 'The Wild Within' branch of Wild Child Literacy – a space where I share our research, discoveries, and tips for nurturing health from the inside out, often inspired by the healing power of the outdoors.
